TRUMP BLASTS SESSIONS… President Trump spent part of his Labor Day on Twitter blasting Attorney General Jeff Sessions and blaming him for the indictments of Republican congressmen Duncan Hunter of California and Chris Collins of New York. The two, who had backed Trump during the 2016 election, were indicted within two weeks of each other last month on unrelated charges. The president appeared especially perturbed that the indictments came in advance of midterm elections. The Justice Department has not responded to Trump’s tweets.

U.S. SERVICE MEMBER KILLED IN AFGHANISTAN… Military officials reported that one U.S. service member was killed and another was wounded in an apparent insider attack in eastern Afghanistan. The statement said the service member was the sixth American killed in Afghanistan this year. The wounded service member was reported to be in stable condition.

EIGHT PEOPLE SHOT IN SAN BERNARDINO SHOOTOUT… Police in San Bernardino, California, reported yesterday that eight people were wounded during a Sunday night shootout over a dice game at an apartment complex. Three of the wounded were listed in “extremely critical” condition and the other five suffered non-life-threatening injuries. At least one of the people shot was a minor. Police recovered no weapons but believe handguns and rifles were involved.

HURRICANE WARNINGS ON GULF COAST… The National Hurricane Center said last night that it expects Tropical Storm Gordon to strengthen into a hurricane by the time it makes landfall along the Gulf Coast tonight. The storm brought heavy rain and powerful winds to South Florida yesterday as it formed into a tropical storm near the Florida Keys. The Coast Guard warned that the ports of New Orleans as well as Gulfport and Pascagoula, Mississippi, may close within 48 hours when gale force winds from Tropical Storm Gordon are expected to arrive.

THREE REMAIN MISSING FOLLOWING BOAT CRASH… Three people remain missing following Saturday night’s head-on crash of two boats on the Colorado River in southeast California near the Arizona border. The body of a 51-year-old woman was recovered yesterday, authorities said. The crash left nine people injured, two of whom were airlifted to a southern Nevada hospital with life-threatening injuries. According to the Mojave County Sheriff’s Department, none of the 16 people aboard both boats was wearing a life jacket.

BONO RETURNS TO THE STAGE… U2 frontman Bono plans to be back on stage tonight at the band’s performance in Cologne, Germany. The singer’s health has been a concern since he lost his voice and had to cancel a show in Berlin after just a couple songs on Saturday. Bono says a smoke machine used as part of the special effects at Saturday’s show might have negatively impacted his voice.

BTS TOPS ALBUM CHART AGAIN… The K-pop boy band BTS tops the Billboard 200 albums chart for the second time in six months. Its new release, “Love Yourself: Answer,” sold 185,000 units. Travis Scott’s “Astroworld” remained in second place with 111,000 units sold. Drake’s “Scorpion” rose one spot to No. 3 on sales of 87,000 units. Ariana Grande’s “Sweetener” slipped from first to fourth place after selling 75,000 units. Nicki Minaj’s “Queen” sold 64,000 units to cap the top five.

MILWAUKEE 4 – Chi. Cubs 3… Christian Yelich beat out a fielder’s choice grounder in the bottom of the ninth inning, allowing pinch-runner Keon Broxton to score the winning run in the Brewers’ defeat of the Cubs. Lorenzo Cain had a couple of hits and an RBI.

WASHINGTON 4 – St. Louis 3 (10 innings)… Bryce Harper connected for a game-tying two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning and lifted a sacrifice fly in the 10th to score Michael Taylor with the winning run as the Nationals outlasted the Cardinals. Trea Turner also went deep for Washington.

MIAMI 3 – Philadelphia 1… Jose Ureña (5-12) held the Phillies to a run on four hits over seven innings. The Marlins took the lead for good on Rafael Ortega’s two-run single in the bottom of the second inning.

PITTSBURGH 5 – Cincinnati 1… Adam Frazier went 4-for-4 with a solo homer and two-run single in leading the Pirates past the Reds. Gregory Polanco homered with a runner aboard. Trevor Williams (12-9) pitched five-hit ball over 6-2/3 shutout innings.

COLORADO 9 – San Francisco 8… The Rockies rallied past the Giants after blowing 4-0 and 7-2 leads and moved a half-game ahead of the Dodgers atop the NL West. Pinch-hitter Noel Cuevas stroked a go-ahead two-run single in the bottom of the eighth inning. Trevor Story and DJ LeMahieu hit two-run homers in the first for Colorado. Story added a three-run blast in the fifth.

N.Y. Mets 4 – L.A. DODGERS 2… Brandon Nimmo came through with a pinch-hit three-run homer in the top of the ninth inning to power the Mets past the Dodgers. The game featured a duel between New York starter Jacob deGrom and his counterpart Alex Wood, but neither got a decision.

San Diego 6 – ARIZONA 2… Franmil Reyes homered twice and knocked in four runs to lead the Padres past the Diamondbacks. Austin Hedges added a two-run single. Bryan Mitchell (1-3) limited Arizona to a run on two hits over five innings.

HOUSTON 4 – Minnesota 1… Alex Bregman homered for the third straight game and Yuli Gurriel added a solo homer as the Astros cruised past the Twins. Dallas Keuchel (11-10) allowed five hits over six shutout innings.

CHI. WHITE SOX 4 – Detroit 2… Daniel Palka hit a game-tying homer to lead off the bottom of the ninth inning and Matt Davidson added a walkoff two-run shot as the White Sox upended the Tigers. Nicky Delmonico led off the first with a homer.

Kansas City 5 – CLEVELAND 1… Jake Junis (8-12) limited the Indians to two hits over seven shutout innings as the Royals cruised to the win. Ryan O’Hearn went 3-for-5 with a pair of homers and three RBIs. Jorge Bonifacio and Hunter Dozier also went deep.

OAKLAND 6 – N.Y. Yankees 3… Matt Chapman doubled home Marcus Semien with a tie-breaking run in the bottom of the second inning and the Athletics never looked back in doubling up on the Yankees. Mark Canha smacked a solo homer. Jed Lowrie had two hits and an RBI.

Tampa Bay 7 – TORONTO 1… Matt Duffy had a couple of hits, including a two-run double, as the Rays breezed past the Blue Jays. Ji-Man Choi hit a solo homer. Kevin Kermaier went 3-for-4 with an RBI.

L.A. Angels 3 – TEXAS 1… David Fletcher broke a scoreless tie with an RBI single in the top of the seventh inning, Taylor Ward added a two-run homer and the Angels held off the Rangers.

SEATTLE 2 – Baltimore 1… Dee Gordon’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth inning scored Cameron Maybin with a go-ahead run and the Mariners hung on to edge the Orioles. Erasmo Ramirez (2-3) held Baltimore to a run on two hits over 5-1/3 innings.

Boston 8 – ATLANTA 2… The Red Sox rolled past the Braves in a matchup of division leaders. Ian Kinsler opened the scoring with an RBI double in the top of the fifth inning and added a two-run single in the eighth.
